If you could ask God...

Blog 6/12

Wow what a busy 4 days.  I can’t believe p-day was only 4 days ago, literally feels like yesterday.  So, I think I told you about my hike and such last p-day.  Well after that we had a lesson with a new investigator named Pauline!  Elder Pennington found her on exchanges and she is great.  She isn’t too sure about our church but seems willing to listen to us.  We also had dinner with her Thursday at Sister Jett's house, which was awesome.  Pauline also came to church but it wasn't the best experience for her.  I thought it was a great Sunday and all the other investigators we had there loved it so we aren’t sure what’s going to happen with her but hopefully she can read the Book of Mormon and feel the spirit on her own.

Thursday night was also crazy.  I was on exchanges with Elder Thornley in their area.  We went up to a neighborhood finding and walked around a corner and the first door we knocked was a Hispanic guy named Tito.  He doesn’t speak much English but told us to come back in 1 hour exactly and his wife could be here and we could teach the whole family.  Well the Spanish elders weren't answering their phone so we kept knocking.  2 doors down we met an ex-RLDS guy who was super sweet and wanted to have us back and feed us! He ended up feeding and talking with the other elders on Saturday but I was able to get an RLDS Book of Mormon from him which is super rad.  As we walked away from his house we look up and there are the Spanish elders, then just at that moment Tito walks out of his house and yells for us to come over!  So, all 4 of us run down there and had a sweet lesson with the family, mostly in Spanish, but we were able to bear our testimonies to them.  The whole family was into it and the father even started to cry multiple times.  The spirit was so powerful.  The rest of the night we hung out with some drunk people, got nicknames from them and big hugs.  (Love drunks, lol) then we were biking home and found a lady who had been taught before in King George, she’s sweet!

Friday was also an amazing day! In the morning we had some service and then a lesson with the Bayles family who are part member.  Ricky (10) is going to be baptized and we were able to set his dad on date and it was so spiritual! It was so good.  After lunch we went out contacting some people and handed out a few books.  Talked to a guy who is super adventurous.  He had skied in Utah before and just hiked the Appalachian trail and told us about his adventures.  Dreams people, he’s rad.

The real highlight was Friday evening when we went to downtown and I was able to go to BENNY VITALLIES again! Remember the big pizza place from Hartwood? Yeah its the best.  So during the visit from Elder Schwitzer he told us about some missionaries when he was a mission president in Russia setting up a table asking people, "If you could ask God one question what would it be?" and using the Book of Mormon to answer their questions.  Well, we got a table and tried it and it was awesome!

If you could ask God one question, what would it be?

If you could ask God one question, what would it be?

We talked to a couple people who were super sweet and had a bunch of Book of Mormons passed out!  Sooo many miracles.  We also saw 2 different families from Hartwood ward walking around which was super fun.  Elder Thornley is a stud missionary and I loved the exchange with him.  He has a lot of leadership potential and you can tell he loves his mission.  I learned so much from him about just loving the work and being in whatever moment God puts you in.  He is going to do a lot of good things for the mission.  As the drunk guy called him, he’s a "boss dog" Lol

Saturday we had an incredible lesson with Nita who has been getting really into it lately.  She had read all the Plan of Salvation scriptures we gave her and the pamphlet and had a ton of questions.  Well pretty much the whole lesson was explaining the Plan of Salvation according to her questions and going through the scriptures to explain it to her.  Her sister was also there and was getting into it as well.  We also talked about baptism and she is still thinking about it.  She will do it! I love Nita so much!

Sunday at church we had the Hopes there, Nita and Pauline!  It was great.  We had a lesson with the Hopes and it was also a really good lesson on the Plan of Salvation.  They are opening up and we were able to have a lot of good discussion.  There are tons of reasons this lesson was spiritually uplifting for myself and Elder Pennington but it’s so hard to explain.  I love this gospel though and I know the spirit is the reason people’s lives change and they can find peace in this life and the life to come.

Besides that Sunday night we had a stake meeting in Culpeper and that was fine.  Nothing amazing haha.  I love my mission though and I can testify of the power of the Atonement in people's lives.  I think my favorite part of my mission is seeing people accept the gospel of Christ into their lives and watching them change.  It makes all the difference which side we are on and I wouldn't trade anything for the gospel I have in my life.  Love you all and I'll talk to you next week!

P.S. Congrats to my big homie DUSTIN HANSEN on returning with honor.  Love ya Dusty buns!
